Spotted: Wee Book Recognized by 50 Books/50 Covers

Woot! Me: A Compendium snagged a design award! 50 Books/50 Covers is the longest running design competition in the country, presented by AIGA, the professional organization for design, and Design Observer. Me was picked out of 700 book and cover designs from more than 23 countries. Congrats to our friends at Office and Clarkson Potter!

What Wee Read

This Bridge Will Not Be Gray, by Dave Eggers

When my kids let me choose the book to read at bedtime, this is my pick. It’s a history book about how the Golden Gate Bridge — the most famous bridge in the world — ended up being bright orange. It wasn’t easy. Some people wanted it to be red and white. Or yellow and black. (Yep, seriously.) Most people wanted it to be gray. It was a really small group of people, raising their voices, that made the difference. From the publisher McSweeney’s, "Sometimes you have to fight for what you believe in, even if it’s just a color.” Every kid (and adult) needs to hear that message.

Wee Heart Homemade Valentines

aaa
This year, we’re foregoing pre-packaged valentine sets for greetings with a little more heart. And to make it easier for busy families, we’re sharing the templates to create cards featuring a few favorite Wee Alphas characters — Yolanda the Yeti, Kate the Koala, Biki the Buffalo and Riley the Raccoon.

Brightly Names Wee's Me a “Bookshelf Must-Have”

We’re so happy that the editors over at Brightly — a blog dedicated to helping raise little readers — are fans of Wee Society.

They recently interviewed us about our new collection of publications. And they’ve just picked Me: A Compendium as Brightly's latest Bookshelf Must-Have.

A few of the really nice things they said:

"From the creative geniuses at Wee Society comes Me: A Compendium, a colorful and whimsical write-in journal designed to show off what makes every child unique ... It’s a fantastic way for 4- to 8-year-olds to express themselves and create a wonderful lasting snapshot of who they are at their present age … This lasting keepsake and surefire hit also makes a thoughtful and memorable gift.

Thanks, Brightly!

Picture Book Blogger Reviews Me: A Compendium

We’re so excited to appear on Picture Books Blogger today — she features so many of our very favorite books!

In her review of Me: A Compendium, she writes, "This is a beautifully produced, highly interactive journal that captures each child’s individuality to perfection!”

(The above image is her 8-year-old’s brilliant take on the cover.) Read the full review here.

Wee You-Things App Free through Nov. 20

Teaching kids about appreciating differences has never felt more important. So we’re offering our Wee You-Things iOS app free through November 20.

As moms and dads, we’re trying to raise good little people — kids who are kind, creative, accepting and helpful. That’s why we created the Wee You-Things app. It sends the message that what makes you different is also what makes you awesome — because if kids feel good about themselves, they’re less likely to put others down. And hopefully that’s one small step toward a world with more kindness, and less bullying.

For kids ages 3-7, the app celebrates what we call “you-things” — those little and big things that, together, make you, you. Ruth has a purple tooth. Brad has two dads. Little Dot gets scared a lot. Niels has orange wheels. After meeting 22 quirky and colorful characters, kids are asked, “What’s your you-thing?,” and get to become part of the story.

We encourage you to check it out with your kids. Use it to spark conversations. Share a giggle. And a big hug.

Spotted: Wee Interview with Brightly

One of our favorite blogs, Brightly, has the awesome mission of helping parents raise kids who love to read. So we jumped at the chance to be interviewed about our new collection of products, published with Clarkson Potter (a division of Random House).
