What Wee Read

In honor of National Reading Month, we thought we'd share a few of our very favorite kids' books. Some are beautiful, some are clever, some are silly—and all are fun to read together.

What Wee Read:

Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle and Jill McElmurry

For almost a year, our boys demanded reading this book every single night. We still have the catchy rhymes memorized. It's about Blue, a country pick-up truck, and his animal friends who figure out the importance of helping others. (And shout out to our Iowa roots—we spent lots of time in pick-ups.)

Meet the You-Things crew

You may have noticed that Wee Society has a few new friends. Who are these curious characters, you ask? Well, they're from Wee You-Things, a new interactive book and happy app we created to help kids understand and celebrate differences, and to provide a starting point for parents to have important conversations in a fun, engaging way.

It's coming soon. In the meantime, stay tuned to meet more of the growing Wee Society gang.

Wee Alphas app wins shiny Parents' Choice Award

We're doing a happy dance over at Wee Society. The Wee Alphas iPad app won a prestigious Parents' Choice Silver Award, recognizing it among the very best mobile apps that entertain and teach, stimulate imagination and inspire creativity.

The app was selected by a panel of educators, kids, parents, scientists, performing artists and librarians. According to the organization, "We look for material to help parents and kids connect. We look for products that teach, without being preachy...In a landscape swelling with products marketed as 'educational,' the Parents' Choice Awards Committees help identify products our experts believe live up to the marketing claims. We don't recognize or commend those that don't."

The Parents' Choice Foundation is the nation's oldest nonprofit program created to recognize and recommend quality children's media and products. They also wrote a review of the Wee Alphas app: "Simple but irresistible stencil illustrations of twenty-six animals hold hidden letters in the Wee Alphas app...The final screen of the app reprises all of the animal characters in a giggle-worthy celebration of the app's special variety of silly humor."

You can download the app in the App Store

Easter blocks-and-seek

Preparing for Easter this year, we were on the hunt for an alternative to candy in our kids' baskets. The best idea? The Easter Bunny is going to hide individual wood blocks that the kids can gather up.

Check out our new Wee You-Things wood blocks for a fun, spring-colored option. One set includes three different puzzles and a set of mix-and-match stackable characters. It's heirloom quality—so it'll stick around much longer than eggs and Peeps.

Wee You-Things Blocks spark little and big imaginations

Wee Society has released its first set of wood blocks—designed to spark generations of imaginations.

"I just gave my old ABC blocks to my own kids—and they've been coming up with all kinds of ways to play with them," said Jill Robertson, Co-Founder, Wee Society. "So we created an heirloom set that would inspire that kind of creativity. Solve a silly face puzzle. Stack and re-stack a bunch of characters. Think of something awesome and build it. And it all looks pretty good sitting on your coffee table."
